1812 Overture Sunday 20th May

Postby maelmordha » Sun May 13, 2018 2:06 pm

Hi Tom,

Here's what I have for Sunday's game.

Russians Groups:
3 x Grenadier
3 x Musketeer
2 x Jager Skirmisher units.
1 x 10 pdr Unicorn.
6 x Foot officers
1 x Mounted Officer

French Groups:
4 x Line
1 x Grenadier
4 x Chasseur
2 x Voltiguer Skirmishers
2 x Mtd Dragoons
1 x Dismounted Dragoons
2 x Foot Officers
1 x Mtd Officer
There's enough spare foot officer figures to fill in from the infantry groups that aren't used.

I have a pile of unpainted (built/based/primed) to eventually fill out the options and I'll see what I can get painted up before Sunday. I'd like to get the St Petersburg Cossacks done or the French artillery but we'll see. I'll probably just finish off the basing on the bits I've already done though (I HATE basing...). We should have enough to have a decent intro game all the same. I have a few carts and wagons for support.

Hi Steve,

Looks very impressive. Larger units than I had expected, thought SP2 was a skirmish game.

Plastics or metals for the line infantry and cavalry?

Will attempt to get along on Sunday for a gander if at all possible as would like to see how this plays.

Cheers, Ross

All the French are metals. A mix of Front Rank, Five Armies, Perry, Victrix and the odd WG figure. Nick's British are mainly Warlord plastics with a few metals iirc. The Front Rank stuff is cracking, you really can't get any better figures IMHO.

Both forces in the photos come to 100 points each which is about standard for a game. A group is 8 foot, 6 Skirmish troops, 8 Cavalry or 1 Gun with 5 crew. The potted lists in the book go from 50-70 points with another 3-16 points per scenario which is also fine. A normal group costs between 2 and 7 points and some of the more expensive stuff (quality rifles!) 10-12.

SP2 covers big skirmishes ala Sharpe and covers everything from 1776-1865 as standard but there are lists and mods published for War of the Roses, ECW and Zulu Wars as well as the Boshin war Maximilian, 1812 and so on.

60-100 figures gets you a suitable force for most stuff.

Thanks, Steve.

I'll look forward to it. I'll plan to get down before 1pm.

In was going to post a picture of my Italians, but I can't figure out how to do it in a post. Some pics are over on the blog, though I've still a ways to go. All Victrix. I sold my Front Rank many many years ago.

Looking good - at least the hard part is done - building the Victrix models!

I'll be there about the same time.

Posting images on this forum is pretty straight forward. Look for the 'Upload Attachment' tab below the text field and use that to upload an image. Just 'Browse' and the 'Add the File'. Click on the point in the text field where you want to place the image then click on the 'Place in Line' tab ...... Voila! If you don't use 'place in line' it just dumps the attachment in your post anyway.

Sometimes you need to cut/paste the text to where you want the image but no biggie. Delete the file to get rid of it.

See you Sunday.
