Battlefront M50 155mm SPG

Postby WingAttackPlan-R » Wed May 23, 2018 5:14 pm

The pricey-end of 15mm at £8.50 each, but in this case, worth it.
The French 155mm gun mounted in an armoured casemate on a Sherman hull by the Israelis is nicely done by Battlefront. White metal gun assembly and two crew, resin hull, and plastic sprue of stuff. The Battlefront offering comes with the original suspension in plastic from the Sherman, but I`ve replaced this with HVSS to depict the model used in the 1973 October War.

Ready to fire rounds line the inner hull, and the tools and cooling vents are moulded neat and crisp on the outer hull.
Likely to feature in the upcoming `Fate of a Nation` reboot, released in collaboration with Osprey, this is one time I don`t grudge paying quids for a 15mm vehicle, it`s proper boom selecta I tell thee.
FIRE!

Ahaa!
Although tis normally true, there is anecdotal evidence that the Israelis brought SPG forward to be used in a similar `bunker buster` direct fire role as the Arabs used the ISU-152, who, in turn, used the ISU-152 as the Soviets had in WW2, as a specifically-designed SPG to clear static defences or obstructions with a maahoosive big gun.
And even if they are off-table (like some stuff in `Nam rules), I still want to bring them, admire them, bless and venerate them. Lovely models. :D

Also never forget, all self propelled artillery can be ambushed on the way to the front.

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Would this not be more appropriate? (I think I bent the gun when I took it off the supports - hey ho I'll just have to do another)

The L33 has an AA MG (30cal, 50cal, or FN MAG) on the right hand side cupola whiles the commander`s cupola is on the left.
http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product1263.html

I`ve seen a flip through of Battlefront/Osprey `Fate of a Nation` rules and they stick with the M50 and Priest (sad), but I`ll need some L33 for `Command Decision:Test of Battle` (hurrah)
Apparently `Nam` and `Fate of a Nation` are compatible, so that you can have Israelis versus Viet Cong, and Americans fighting...well everybody.

Although I`ll never need more than three L33 for CD:TOB I want more so that I can line them up, sit back, and admire them.

There are several items on your most extensive list that I`d be interested in seeing also.

Massive vroom vroom :D
